In the Water Margin
Li Ying is master of Li Family Manor on Lone Dragon Ridge, famed for his spear and concealed throwing knives. His estate is allied with the neighbouring Hu and Zhu families. When he intercedes for the captured Shi Qian, the Zhu household rejects him; a confrontation leaves him wounded by an arrow.
After Liangshan defeats Zhu Family Manor, a deception brings Li Ying and his family to the mountain and closes off his return to estate life. He takes seat eleven under the Tianfu star and shares responsibility for money and provisions with Chai Jin. Property, influence and administration matter as much to his portrait as his weapons.
