In the Water Margin
Shi Yong comes from Daming and is known as Stone General for his imposing build. A killing after a gambling dispute sends him onto the roads. At an inn he meets Song Jiang’s party without recognizing its leader and declares the few men he respects. One of them is standing in front of him.
Once introductions are made, Shi Yong produces a letter entrusted to him by Song Qing. It reports the death of Song Jiang’s father and sends Song Jiang hurrying home. The news is a device to bring the son back; the messenger does not know it. Shi Yong later joins Liangshan at seat ninety-nine beneath the Dichou star, remembered especially for this letter that abruptly changes the journey.
