In the Water Margin
Du Xing comes from Zhongshan Prefecture and has a coarse, frightening face, so he is called Demon Face. Years before, in Jizhou, he had killed a man in a quarrel and been jailed, and the warder Yang Xiong saved him. Now he is the steward of Li Ying's manor at Dulong Ridge. When Yang Xiong and Shi Xiu flee after Shi Qian is caught by the Zhu family, Du Xing recognizes his old benefactor in a tavern.
He takes them to Li Ying, who writes to the Zhu manor asking for Shi Qian's release. Zhu Biao tears up the letter, and when Li Ying rides out in anger he is wounded by an arrow. After the Zhu manor falls, Du Xing comes to Liangshan with his master and takes seat eighty-nine beneath the Diquan star. After the war against Fang La he goes home with Li Ying to Dulong Ridge.
