In the Water Margin
Wang Ying is a short, rough outlaw at Clear Wind Mountain, sharing its leadership with Yan Shun and Zheng Tianshou. Song Jiang nearly dies in their camp before his identity is recognized. Wang Ying’s appetite for women repeatedly causes conflict during these encounters and is not softened simply by meeting a celebrated guest.
During the fighting at Zhu Family Manor, Hu Sanniang defeats and captures him. She is later taken by Liangshan, where Song Jiang arranges her marriage to Wang Ying. He receives seat fifty-eight under the Diwei star, just before hers. The imposed marriage preserves the unequal and troubling relationships within the band rather than resolving them.
